Special Projects
At times Arsalyn collaborates with other organizations on special projects consistent with our mission. The potential for fruitful collaboration and a preference for working with smaller organizations are prime considerations for Arsalyn in considering new projects. If you have ideas for new projects consistent with our mission and/or would like to inquire about the possibility of collaborating on special projects promoting youth civic and political engagement, feel free to contact us.
USC Calis & ArsalynCALIS is an outreach project of the School of International Relations dedicated to advancing teaching excellence in international studies.
Through our service-learning programs, USC students team-teach in local high schools and act as a driving force for academic innovation and socially relevant scholarship. As USC teams teach locally, CALIS is better able to reach globally to provide effective strategies and materials in international studies. Excellent teaching is measured by real learning... of relevant content and rigorous skills. Along with "meaningful study for a global age", we seek to impact college readiness and to help close the achievement gap. |
MIKVA Challenge
Mikva Challenge develops youth to be empowered, informed, and active citizens who will promote a just and equitable society. Arsalyn And Mikva have partnered to help fund Action Civics LA and Project Soapbox. The Project Soapbox prompt reads as follows:The soapbox speech originates from the days when speakers would elevate themselves to an audience by standing on a wooden crate, or soapbox, to make an impromptu speech about a political topic or community issue. This speech gives the opportunity to persuade the audience to understand, care, act, vote, or speak out on an issue that affects the community.
This election season your voice matters, and Mikva Challenge wants you to get on that soapbox and tell the next president about an issue that affects your community. Your speech might offer a solution, create awareness, ask the audience or elected officials to act, or call the president to action. In two minutes or less, what is the most pressing issue facing young people today, why is it important, and what should be done to address it?

Your vote is your voice
Arsalyn, in collaboration with the California Secretary of State's Office and the LA County Registrar's Office, has produced an exciting, new public service announcement (PSA) called "don't be silent - your vote is your voice." The PSA is made for television and/or movie screens and features a diverse group of young people encouraging their peers to vote. It directs viewers to the website www.register2votenow.com for online voter registration and resources that can help them become informed voters. The PSA was produced using footage shot for the Arizona Secretary of State's youth voter outreach PSA, with permission of the Arizona Secretary of State's Office.
